The Cowdray Room
(Intimate Microweddings & Elopements):
Perfect for small, quiet ceremonies with just your witnesses or immediate family. The original wood panelling and large sash windows bring in soft, beautiful directional light and make this room a favourite of mine!
Because space in smaller rooms can be cosy, I work unobtrusively from discreet angles and don’t use flash in this space to capture authentic reactions without crowding you or your guests.
The Warnham Room
(Larger Ceremonies)
Ideal for gatherings of around 20 guests; The Warnham Room offers a sophisticated, elegant feel with plenty of room for family and friends to sit comfortably. The light flooding through the front windows makes capturing natural expressions and vows effortless.
Group Photos and Photo Locations at Edes House
You do not need to spend hours posing to get great group photos or memorable portraits at Edes House. Everything is within a quick, easy walk.
The Entrance Lobby & Grand Fireplace: The ground floor entrance lobby, dominated by its impressive historic fireplace, serves as an excellent indoor backdrop for small family groups or couple shots if the weather gets unpredictable!
The Rear Courtyard & External Steps: For group photos with all your guests, the wide external stairs at the rear of Edes House work brilliantly. The steps fan out to give everyone clear visibility without anyone getting hidden in the back, making group portraits fast, simple, and painless.
Chichester Cathedral & Precincts: Just a short two-minute stroll down West Street leads straight to Chichester Cathedral, the Cloisters, and the Cathedral Green. These spots offer historic flint walls, ancient stone archways, and quiet garden paths that provide a stunning, natural backdrop for your couple portraits immediately after your ceremony.
Practical Tips for Your Edes House Wedding
Mind the City Centre Parking: Edes House sits directly on West Street in central Chichester. While there is no dedicated on-site parking for guests, public car parks (such as Avenue de Chartres or Westgate) are within easy walking distance, as well as limited on street parking directly outside. Make sure your guests allow a few extra minutes to find a spot and walk over.
Pacing Your Ceremony Slot: Register office schedules run on precise timings, but the staff at Edes House are thoughtful and relaxed so you won’t feel rushed! However, still plan to arrive slightly ahead of your slot so you can relax before seeing the registrar.
Make the Most of the Location: Because Edes House is right in the centre of town, many couples follow their ceremony with drinks or a casual meal at a nearby Chichester restaurant or pub. Taking a short walk through the city for portraits on your way to reception fits seamlessly into your day.
FAQ
-
For the ceremony itself, I would suggest arriving around 30 minutes before your alloted time so you have time to speak to the Registrar and enjoy the build-up!
The smaller ceremonies that Ede’s house likes to accommodate usually take around 20-30 minutes and the venue’s staff will make sure you don’t overlap with any other ceremonies!
For the portraits, groups and other photography afterwards; I would recommend around 30 minutes. This gives us enough time for family group photos or portraits outside on the rear steps, followed by a short, relaxed 2 minute walk to Chichester Cathedral for any additional couple portraits you may want before you head to your reception. -
Edes House has lovely interior options. The ground floor lobby with its grand fireplace provides a rustic, warm backdrop for small group shots and portraits if rain keeps us indoors.
The cloisters at nearby Chichester Cathedral are also fantastic in wet weather as they are fully enclosed! -
My style is mostly documentary and natural. I will, of course, photograph key family group shots, but do so quickly so you can get back to enjoying your day. The majority of your gallery will consist of natural, unposed candid moments.
